Early Life

Pras, who was born in Brooklyn and reared in Irvington, New Jersey, developed an early interest in music. He met Lauryn Hill at Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey when they were both 15 years old.

New Jersey is a state in the United States that is located in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern regions. The state of New York borders it on the north and east; the Atlantic Ocean borders it on the east, southeast, and south; the Delaware River and Pennsylvania border it on the west; and Delaware Bay and the state of Delaware border it on the southwest. New Jersey is the fifth smallest state in terms of surface size, at 7,354 square miles (19,050 km2), yet it is the 11th-most populous and densely populated, with about 9.3 million citizens.

Trenton is the state capital, while Newark is the most populous city in the state. With the exception of Warren County, all of the state’s counties are located within the combined statistical areas of New York City or Philadelphia, making Greater New York the state’s largest metropolitan area.

Pras introduced Lauryn to Wyclef Jean in 1988. Under the direction of Kool and the Gang’s producer, Ronald Khalis Bell, Pras Michel, Wyclef Jean, and Lauryn Hill began rehearsing and eventually established The Rap Translators in 1989. (also known as Tranzlator Crew).

The Fugees (/fudiz/; also known as The Fugees) are a hip hop group from the United States that started in the early 1990s. Wyclef Jean, Pras Michel, and Lauryn Hill make up the group, which gets its name from a contraction of the word “refugees.” The Score (1996), the group’s second album, became one of the best-selling albums of all time. The group is widely regarded as one of the most influential alternative hip hop acts of the 1990s.

The group signed with Ruffhouse Records, which is distributed by Columbia Records, in 1993. The following year, the group released Blunted on Reality (1994), which got largely positive reviews and featured the Salaam Remi-remixed underground singles “Nappy Heads” and “Vocab.” They followed it up with The Score (1996), their second and final studio album, which was a huge success, reaching number one on the US Billboard 200 chart and being certified seven times platinum in the US. It was widely praised and is widely regarded as one of the best hip hop albums of all time.

The smash singles “Killing Me Softly,” “Ready or Not,” and “Fu-Gee-La” were among them. Following that, the Fugees released the single “Rumble in the Jungle,” which reached number three in the UK and featured Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest, and John Forté. The group split in 1997 to allow its members to pursue separate careers. The Fugees reunited for reunion tours in 2004 and 2021.

The Fugees are one of the best-selling hip hop groups of all time, with over 22 million albums sold worldwide. MTV named it the tenth best hip-hop group of all time in 2007. They’ve been branded “the hip hop Beatles” by Bono of U2. BET named the group to their list of “Hip Hop’s Greatest Trios” in 2012. The Fugees have received numerous awards, including two Grammys and a Brit Award Best International Group.

Prakazrel Michel’s Music History

Pras attended Rutgers University and Yale University, pursuing a double degree in Philosophy and Psychology, before and during the making of The Fugees’ first album, Blunted on Reality, in 1994, under the direction of Ronald Khalis Bell.

Rutgers University is a public land-grant research university in New Brunswick, New Jersey, officially known as Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Rutgers University was founded in 1766 as Queen’s College. It is the eighth-oldest institution in the United States, the second-oldest in New Jersey (after Princeton University), and one of nine American colonial colleges founded prior to the American Revolution. Colonel Henry Rutgers, whose major donation to the institution had steadied its finances during a period of instability, was honoured in 1825 when Queen’s College was renamed Rutgers College.

Yale University is a New Haven, Connecticut-based private Ivy League research university. It is the third-oldest institution of higher education in the United States, and one of the most prominent in the world, having been founded in 1701 as the Collegiate School.

The Collegiate School, one of nine Colonial Colleges founded before the American Revolution, was renamed Yale College in 1718 to honour Elihu Yale, the school’s major private supporter throughout the first century of its existence. The Collegiate School, chartered by Connecticut Colony, was founded in 1701 by clergy to educate Congregational preachers before transferring to New Haven in 1716.

By the time of the American Revolution, the curriculum had expanded to include humanities and sciences, as well as theology and sacred languages. The college moved into graduate and professional education in the nineteenth century, offering the first PhD in the United States in 1861 and establishing itself as a university in 1887. With the fast expansion of the physical campus and scientific research after 1890, Yale’s faculty and student populations increased.

Pras has also had a successful solo career, beginning with the international hit track “Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are)” off his first full-length solo LP, which included Ma and Ol’ Dirty Bastard. In 1999, “Ghetto Superstar” was a top ten record and the seventh most played single, earning Pras a spot on the World Music Awards stage.

Pras was also featured on Swedish singer DeDe’s hit “Turn You On,” which was released in 2007. Pras Michél also wrote and produced the song “Turn You On.” It reached No. 2 on Sweden’s singles chart after nine weeks. He starred in and produced the Sony and Urban World films Higher Ed and Go for Broke, which were released in early 2002. In 2007, he also appeared in three films produced by 20th Century Fox. The Mutant Chronicles was one of them.

Mutant Chronicles is a British-American science-fiction action-horror film released in 2008. It is partially based on the same-named role-playing game. Simon Hunter directed the picture, which stars Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman.

It was released in Europe in 2008, with a North American VOD release on March 27, 2009, and a limited theatrical release on April 24, 2009. On August 4, 2009, the film was released on DVD and Blu-ray.

Pras made Skid Row, Los Angeles in 2006, a documentary about his nine-day stint pretending as a homeless person in downtown Los Angeles. Pras caught the realities of homelessness with a hidden camera. Teryn Fogel directed and produced the picture. On August 24, 2007, Skid Row was released.

The term “skid row” or “skid road,” which refers to a neighbourhood in a city where people are “on the skids,” comes from a logging term. Loggers transported their logs to a nearby river by sliding them down greased skid roads. Loggers who had escorted the cargo to the bottom of the road would wait for conveyance back to the logging camp at the bottom of the hill. By extension, the term came to be applied for places where individuals with no money and nothing to do congregated, eventually becoming the generic term for a dismal city street in English-speaking North America. In 2015, Pras completed the documentary Sweet Micky For President, which follows Haitian artist Michel Martelly from his rise to his election as President of Haiti to fight corruption, an electoral campaign that Pras ardently supported. At the 2015 Slamdance Film Festival, the film got its world premiere.

The Slamdance Film Festival is an annual film festival that focuses on up-and-coming filmmakers. The annual week-long festival takes place in late January in Park City, Utah, and is the main event hosted by the year-round Slamdance organisation, which also hosts a screenplay competition, workshops, screenings, and events focusing on independent films with unverified budgets under $1 million USD.

After failing to submit films to the Sundance Film Festival, Dan Mirvish, Jon Fitzgerald, Shane Kuhn, and Peter Baxter, along with Paul Rachman, launched the festival in 1995. Since 1997, Baxter has been in charge of Slamdance.
