Kayla DesRuisseaux was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Cambridge. Today, she resides in Lynn, where she continues to make an impact through her work and passion for mental wellness.

Being Haitian: A Cultural Bridge

For Kayla, being Haitian is more than just a cultural identity—it’s a lens through which she views the world. Growing up in a Haitian household allowed her to recognize the similarities between Haitian and other cultures, fostering a deep appreciation for cultural diversity.

She also takes pride in how Haitian culture has influenced other communities around the world. For Kayla, the best part of being Haitian is the culture itself—its rich food, vibrant music, and sense of community. “We have the best food, the best music, and the best culture. It’s such an honor to be Haitian,” she says proudly.

Educational Background and Professional Journey

Kayla pursued a degree in communications at Regis College, which sharpened her ability to engage with people and communicate effectively. Today, she works as a special education instructional aide, dedicating her time to working with children with special needs.

Kayla’s compassion and patience in her role not only make her an asset to the classroom but also align with her long-term goal of establishing a mental health practice that serves the black and brown community.

Accomplishments and goals

Among Kayla’s achievements is winning several Massachusetts State Guild acting awards, a testament to her talent and passion for the arts. Recently, she was named one of the top 100 Haitians, an honor she proudly adds to her growing list of accomplishments.

However, Kayla’s ambitions don’t stop there. She aims to further her education, ultimately working toward a lifelong goal of creating a mental health practice that focuses on underserved communities, particularly black and brown individuals.

Giving back to the Haitian community

Kayla is committed to helping the Haitian community by raising awareness about mental health. She believes that creating access to mental wellness services is crucial for the overall well-being of her community. In addition, Kayla’s expertise in working with children with special needs is a skill she believes can greatly benefit the Haitian community.

In addition to her work in education and mental health, Kayla is a talented singer, cook, actor, and caregiver. She loves to travel, dance, go to the gym, and spend quality time with her godchildren—activities that make her feel empowered and connected to herself and her loved ones.

Through her passion for helping others and celebrating her Haitian heritage, Kayla DesRuisseaux is determined to foster an environment where mental health is embraced and young girls learn to love themselves in healthy, constructive ways. Her journey of service, empowerment, and cultural pride is just beginning.
