My name is Hannah Bekolo, and I am a 20-year-old Haitian-Cameroonian-American living in North Carolina. While I have never lived in Haiti, my background and my culture is surely my greatest pride. Being the only daughter of immigrant parents from different countries, I learned of the struggles immigrants face in their day-to-day lives at an early age. Since I was three years old, I have had a passion for healthcare. However, in recent years, I have grown to want more than being a provider — I want to be an ally.
I am currently a third-year student at Elon University, a prestigious private university in North Carolina, with majors in Public Health and Biology with minors in Psychology, Neuroscience, and Human Service Studies. I have dedicated my time in undergraduate to service organizations, mentoring minority youth in our neighboring community, and working alongside doctors in a medical clinic that provides quality care to underserved populations — primarily immigrants.
