Hello, my name is Ashley but I go by “Aesthetics”. I am a documentary filmmaker, I’ve been traveling the country for the past four years documenting the front lines. 2020 was my first time ever attending a protest or even doing videography and I have been blessed to be able to not only tell the correct narrative of this revolution I feel like it is my purpose of my duty and being Haitian. And this year being 2024 is lowkey the reason I’m applying to this magazine today, I truly believe that it’s 220 years later and there needs to be a change/a shift in our environment. We have to create the culture that we want to be a part of. Currently we see the strides that Haitians are facing, and I can only gather that it’s because with the first independent black nation & they still want us to suffer, the consequences of our actions. I’ve never been more prouder to be a Haitian, especially after documenting the uprising of 2020. Both of my parents are born and raised in Haiti (Ocap & Gonaives).
