About the Cover Story Candidate

MACULSON MASSENAT
ROCKFORD ILLINOIS ,USA
MASSENAH NOU LA
SAUT DEAU HAITI
My family and I left Haiti in 1991/92, during a hard time in Haiti. We had to leave because they tried to kill my whole family. When I was 5/6 years old My brothers, sisters and I witnessed our mother being beat bloody. We begged, pleaded and even jump up and down inflicting pain on ourselves. And still no mercy was granted to my mother. After they were done, my mom still standing, walked to our yard where my 5/6 year old self washed her up with salt water. We hid for a year and half until we moved to the USA in 94, to Rockford Illinois where there were no Haitians. The kids picked on us, the teachers marked us as people who do voodoo. They had no respect or love for Haitians. And I planned on changing that, I was barely called by my name. Everyone referred to me as Haiti, even the church pastors. In 2017 I graduated Illinois state university with a bachelor’s of science. And started focusing on my music and spreading the message “ NOU LA” WERE HERE. Trying to unite Haitians and wake up their souls, reminding them that Unity is where our strength lays. Because ever since I left Haiti, all I’ve ever wanted to do is go back and make Haiti better.
