About the Cover Story Candidate

My name is Eva Ysbeck and I’d like to be on the cover Haiti Open Magazine, because being Haitian is not just my identity but within the identity, hence the culture, I was able to gather a sense of self. I’ve overcomed a myriad of “mental illnesses” from manic depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, just to mention a few of the clinically diagnosed psychosis. Through conformity of the culture of America, I was losing my core self. It caused for an identity disassociation and through knowledge of self and deeper study of my heritage, I realized I wasn’t what was classified as crazy but was rather going through spiritual warfare, which would then lead to a spiritual awakening. I was able to overcome this adversity, not just through family support, mainly my my mother but learning my culture and the spiritual aspects which I was so easily able to identify. Since then I’ve been an advocate for mental health, as I hope all beings who may face a challenge such as this may overcome it. I believe this can be done starting with the path of knowledge of self. Since then I’ve written poetry and published on YouTube in addition to other videos which I always bring a sense of a
