About the Cover Story Candidate

Parents From: Port au Prince
My name is Kenson, I’m a screenwriter based in LA. I grew up in Haiti (Port au Prince) and was raised by a grandmother who practiced both: Voodoo and Christianity simultaneously — depending on how fast she needed answers. My writing often explores themes of identity, family, and the meaning of home. Growing Haitian has always been a pride and a challenge. Proud to be from such a rich culture, amazing food, amazing history, music, beautiful beaches and more. But sometimes it’s a challenge of always having to defend Haiti due to some of the stigmas perpetuated by ignorance of what being Haitian is and looks like. I became a writer mainly to fight that stigma. Although I’ve never been ashamed of being Haitian, but sometimes I do get exhausted about the state of the country and constant instability.
