Hello, my name is Sarah. I was born in Boston, MA, to Natalie and Rodelin, a young Haitian couple trying to figure it out. We made our way down Georgia, after some cold winters, where I’ve spent most of my life. During my childhood, lessons of grace, respect, and culture were emphasized. Passed down through food, media, and tradition. My siblings and I were blessed enough to have our grandmother around to help with raising us. It really does take a village. She made sure we knew our people and our culture. From doing our hair in barrets every night before school, to making sure we were well feed, preparing feast of diri, saus pwa and legume( with oxtails might I add)(personal favorite). There was a time were I could say I felt inferior growing up, feeling left out and different because I wasn’t allowed to do the things other kids could, like wearing my hair the way I wanted to, or sleeping over at a friends houses. It made me feel caged, I mean I literally lived leglize, lakay, lekol. I now understand that was my people’s way of showing love, in a world that got soooo much bigger after the choice to leave home for oppo
