Why I want to be on the cover? Haiti may be hundreds of miles away, but it is my home and the heart of my culture. Here in America, I strive to be a beacon of what it means to be Haitian: excellent, resilient, beautiful, and truly one of a kind…inside and out. Every day, I represent my heritage with pride, breaking down stereotypes and inspiring new admirers of our vibrant culture. I recently got married at St. John the Divine in New York City. It’s the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, and was always my dream growing up. Living in a generation often marked by lovelessness, jaded hearts, and a loss of faith, I wanted to show that beauty still exists. That love still matters. That there is still value in marriage and in the sacred act of bonding one’s soul to another. I want to give some woman hope that she will indeed find love and it’ll be marked by God. I also want to give a young man hope, that he will find his other half to complete him as well. In dark times, all you need is hope.
