To be featured on the cover of Haiti Open Magazine would be an honor beyond words—not just for me, but for the legacy of my mother, for every Haitian woman who paved the way with quiet strength, and for every young girl who’s ever longed to see herself fully reflected in a story of pride, power, and purpose.
My mother was born in Haiti, and although I was raised outside the island, Haiti has always lived in me. It’s in the rhythm of the kompa that played during family gatherings, the aroma of epis simmering in the kitchen, and in every story my mother told me about her youth—the vibrant colors of the marketplace, the strength of the women, the beauty of a land kissed by the sun and shaped by resilience. The first time I visited Haiti, I felt something awaken in me. I didn’t just fall in love—I felt whole. There was something sacred in walking the same ground my mother once did, seeing the mountains she described as a child, hearing the laughter of people who welcomed me not as a tourist, but as family.
