Thank you for the opportunity to submit for this contest. I believe I am the definition of overcoming triumph. Today, I am known as Dr. Aline Milfort, a school psychologist, but at age 15, I was a young girl diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder; doctors stated that if it had been found in time, I would not have been alive... But God! I am the first school psychologist in my family, but I would not have made it without my parents and aunt's sacrifices. Although I experienced years of trials and tribulations, I graduated with my doctorate in school psychology in May 2022, and a year later, by the Grace of God, I was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from my alma mater, Nova Southeastern University. I am also the co-founder and Director of Marketing for one of the most amazing nonprofit organizations to date, the Black School Psychologists Network known as BSPN. This organization was established after seeing a need within the field, and we aim to support, elevate, and advance the work of Black School Psychologists nationwide.
