We will have dual covers for our 2023 Year-in-Review edition instead of a single cover. One will feature recording artist and award-winning singer Rutshelle Guillaume (@rutshelle). The content creator and kanal la pap kanpe super-activist, Bertrhude Albert, Ph.D. (@bertrhude) will grace the other cover. Â
In 2023, Rutshelle and Dr. Bertrhude were exemplary figures in their respective fields. When choosing our cover subject, we couldn’t decide between the two. Both women had a stellar year and represented Haiti the best they could through their work. Rutshelle celebrated her 10th anniversary in music by releasing new songs from her upcoming fourth studio album and won the 2023 TRACE award for best Caribbean artist. Dr. Bertrhude published dozens of videos to tell Haiti’s true story, fundraised for the kanal workers, and actively provided on-the-ground support.
Out of the 10 most-voted cover story candidates to grace the magazine’s annual Year-in-Review edition this year, we believe these two are most deserving. Thank you to everyone who voted for them!
We look forward to publishing their cover stories and the stories of all the Top 40 Artists and Creators of 2023.
Each year, Haiti Open magazine selects 40 artists, creators, and producers who have produced outstanding Haitian-related content in their respective fields. Then, in a special edition, we publish an article about each individual to document their achievements and how he or she inspired us.
In addition to featuring the Top 40 in our Year-in-Review edition, we hold an annual contest (from 12.12 through 12.21) which allows fans to vote on which artist should grace the cover.
The 10 artists, creators, and producers who win the most votes will each receive a photo shoot with an esteemed photographer. One of these 10 people will be selected for our cover.
Vote for your favorite artist, creator, or producer (from Dec. 12 through Dec. 21) to be the cover story for the magazine’s annual Year-in-Review edition. They each have a unique voting page link you can share.
